Letter to my future teacher

For writing workshops we have to write a letter to our teacher next year. We don't know who our teacher will be but we will find out the last week of term.
The success criteria we used was this:

Here is my letter:

Wednesday 28th November 2018

To my new teacher,

Hi my name is Sophie  and I am currently a student at Wainui Beach School, I have 2 guinea pigs and a dog and I love animals. I want to tell you a little bit about myself.

I like maths, writing, reading, art and PE. I love maths because it's a challenge, writing because you can explore new ideas, and reading because it inspires me with new ideas and I like to read.

The subjects I need help with is spelling. I also want to learn more with maths, geometry.

 The activities at school I like are music, sports, arts, and gymnastics.

I love gymnastics and I am a step 4, and I love animals. I would also love it if you would give me homework. I like working in a small space only with a couple of friends. Next year I can't wait to be a year six and go on camp.

I am really looking forward to meeting you.

Ninja Maths

Each week we have to complete 240 maths questions for our basic facts challenge. 60 a day. We have divisions and times table questions, most of them are easy but take a while to complete all 60 questions. In our book we draw out Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays grid and then we get out the sheet on our chromebooks and copy just the answers in our books.  We are doing Ninja maths because we want to learn all our times tables because they help with a lot with maths. Here is an example of a ninja maths sheet:

My next steps are percentages, decimals and fractions converting them into each other. There is a game called decention and it helps you converting fractions into decimals and percentages.

This Town Poem

This is the original poem by James K Baxter. We altered it and changed it to have one of our own.



 The success criteria we used to write this poem was:
1. choose a place that we wanted to do the poem on.
2. do a brainstorm on what 5 places that are in the town that you chose. 3. pick 5 nouns related to the place 4. pick 5 strong verbs.
 5. Include; did what girls/boys do.
6. Include at the end, doing nothing important.

Adding Decimals

This is a video how how to add decimals.
 I found it easy because i knew how to do
 algorithms, but found it tricky when we started
adding larger numbers. My next steps are to
add and subtract much larger numbers up to the thousands. 

why trophy hunting should be band

For this term our school has speech competitions. My speech topic is Why trophy hunting should be ban but the overall topic is Actions speak louder than words. Here is my speech:

Treat others the way you want to be treated is a world known

quote and I can't see why we do it differently to animals when

we trophy hunt! Recently I wrote a powerful letter to Donald

Trump because he lifted the ban for trophy hunting just

because his son likes it. I thought this was disgraceful

behaviour so I acted on it! Here are 3 reasons why killing

animals for fun should be banned!

What have they ever done to you

Not everyday you get lions, tigers, elephants and rhinoceros

bombarding into you house and killing you, but that is

what we do to them everyday.

Humans are by far the biggest threat to animals they

are magnificent creatures and I am at a loss to understand

why anyone would want to hurt or kill a defenceless animal.

Eat the Meat

It’s alright to kill an non endangered animal if you are going to

eat the meat.

I have never seen elephant meat on the self at Pack’n’ save!

For Duck shooting more than 1 million ducks are killed each

year and 20% - 40% of the ducks are killed with shotgun

pellets and are never retrieved and are just left and die a

lingering death. Same with fishing games. They catch huge

beautiful fish and hang it up in the sun just to look at they

don't even eat the meat!

Animal Extinction

Did you know 100 million animals are killed anuly just with

trophy hunting! And 70,000 of them are killed by Americans!

Lots of amazing creatures are getting extinct because of trophy

hunting. There is only 3 female white rhino left in the whole

world because poaches and trophy hunters killed them all!

 In my opinion trophy hunting is stupid! All it does is kill

beautiful and rare animals to extinction. Research has

shown that people trophy hunt to show off and make

money. This is a really bad excuse. Birds, elephants,

lions, wolves, tigers and much more animals deserve a

life but we just  take that away from them. Over all

I think that trophy hunting should be ban!

Chapter Chat Activity Vocabulary

for chapter chat we read Little House On The Prairie.  For the activities there is vocabulary when they choose words from the book and we have to find the meaning of them. Here is Miriam's and mine:

Cafe Day

On  Thursday the 20th of September Moana 2/3 are making a Cafe Day for the elderly people. It is because this terms topic is actions speak louder than words and we think that a Cafe Day would be great! We are doing this in the school hall and we are inviting elderly people to come.
What we will do:

• decorate the hall
• do baking to share / tea, coffie
• learning
• stories
• songs
• games

The skills we need to complete this activity is communication, teamwork and time management.
