Writing Extension

 This week on Monday and Tuesday I participated in writing extension. This year in writing extension you had to produce a 500 word essay on your legacy at Gisint.

Kicking The Distance

Today for physical maths I went in a team of 3 including me we went onto the field to kick rugby balls. In my team there was Bonnie and Max. Max coulnd't kick the ball because he broke his ankle so he threw the ball. To include the math side of it we measured how far we kicked it. We kicked it (and threw it) 5 times each. Then measured total. Here is my graph:

Piktochart Graph

 Piktochart - which I am new to today - makes cool graphs and I will carry on using this website. Today we did a tally chart about our classes favourite sports. Then we turned this data into a graph on piktochart. My favourite sport on the graph is tumbling. I am one of the two people who do this as their sport.

Animation Profile

 Last week in Manaiakalani we made new profile pictures for our blog. I learnt how to make a slide into and animation. It was really fun and I will always remember what to do. 

Survivor Week

 

This week in LH7 we are doing survivor week. This is when we get into 5 groups of 6 and do lots of fun challenges and activities. I enjoyed doing the quizzes and the P.E challenges. I also found the quizzes challenging. So far it has been really fun and I can't wait for the next activities. 

R.V design

For our Team, Tane Mahuta, are having a competition. The winner of the design will have their design printed and that will be our new R.V design. Also the winner of the competition will automatically get 20 R.V's and layer 3 opportunity. 

My R.V design describes our team, Tane Mahuta. It has the school logo and the school's rise values. The background is green because Tane Mahuta is the god of the forest. It also has a picture of Tane Mahuta himself on it. 

All about me 2020

We are learning about the digital footprint and making sure our online information is not public when it's personal. 

I found it challenging to know what to share or to keep personal.  

I found it very easy to create the image of me as I have done it many times before.

Next time I'll try add more sentence styles to my writing to learn something new. 

Terrific Term 4!

This term we have been very busy with Culture city, athletics day, Kapa Haka, Road patrol reward day and much more exciting day outs. Our term topic is Culture city, celebrating our diversity. Every week in Moana Learning hub we have two countries to choose from. Whatever one we chose we have to do a small project about it. We had to research facts about their cultures Drama, Visual arts, Dance and Music. After completing that we made a paper doll with their countries national costume

where we pin to the wall with everybody else's costumes.

We also had athletics day recently! The whole school had to participate in four activities. Sprints, high jump, long jump and ball throw. My favourite was high jump. I came first out of the year 6 girls. It was a really fun day with everyone 

fighting to get points for their houses. 

I loved seeing everybody dress in their house colors. 

A couple weeks ago our school participated in the Turanganui Kapa Haka festival. We had been practising for almost 2 terms

and we were ready for the festival. I was in the front row meaning I got to wear piu piu. As I takihiad to the rhythm my piu piu swayed around.

This term has been my favourite term at WBS as I was away for most of it (In England & Spain). I can't wait to go to intermediate but I have kind of enjoyed my journey through WBS. I am looking forward to having new teachers and meeting new people.

Turanganui Kapa Haka festival

Applause flooded the room as Wai syndicate finished performing.  I followed everyone to the grass area where we got our piupiu on. As I swayed around with the piupiu I suddenly felt excited. Backstage we felt anxious with nerves but as the last performance strode off stage it was time. All the practice we had put into this moment soon paid off. 

Scanning the audience there were many familiar faces all staring up at us. The strum of the guitar started our performance as we strided forward for the the first waiata into a triangle formation. Soon we gathered into a small crowd and chanted haramai a paoa. We scattered out into our lines for our next song. Ka pioioi. My piu piu swayed to the beat of the takihia.  Cheering grew throughout the hall as we finished our song moving onto the poi. "Poi Kiamo." Matiria commanded. We soon finished our poi song and moved onto the transition waiata, where the boys chanted overtop.  The boys did the haka and we finished with a few more songs coming through. As we left the stage I wanted  to do it all again. 

I found Nicky and my mum for photos. They were so proud of our performance and congratulated us before leaving. I folded up my piu piu and put it back in the stocking. I felt tired and hungry and wanted to go home. On the way back to school I nearly fell asleep. My highlight was Utina and Kapi oi oi. I loved the experience and am so proud. 

Te Poho O Rawiri Marae Visit

As we setup our beds underneath the kowhaiwhai my heart thumped with excitement. It had been a busy day with lots of fun activities and now it was nearly the end.
Parents started to arrive and everyone lined up outside the wharenui. It was time for the display night. 

First up was the Nui kapa haka.  We sang songs, swung our poi and the boys did the haka. Jump jam was up next. We danced to "Captain Jack." All the ukulele groups performed then all the parents left. Now it was time for what I was most excited for; the sleepover.

The lights switched off and everyone snuggled into bed. Bonnie and I shared a single mattress. It was really small. We talked until midnight than waked up early the next morning to someone snoring. 

The marae trip was a great experience. I learnt lots traditional games and even learned a new song. 

It was a lot of fun!

Refugee!

In my reading group our job is to read a book, answer questions about it and do activities based on the book. The book is called "Refugee". So far the story has been very interesting and sad. There are 3 main characters in the book, each chapter they swap over to the 3 different people. Their names are Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud. They are all refugees fleeing from their home country.

Everyone in our reading group has their own book for "Refugee." In that book we answer questions and complete our activities. Last week's activity was to make a kahoot about "Refugee" and ask at least 20 questions about the book. Some of the questions were:

Lung Capacity; Science Fair

This term we have science fair. Bonnie and I did a project on Lung Capacity. 

It is all about how to measure your lung capacity.  

We got lots of different people to come and test it out. 

It took us 2 weeks to complete this project and we are happy with how it turned out. 

Our science fair and 8 others have been displayed in the hall to be judged. 

The judge will be looking out for great layout and hard work. 

Hopefully our will get into the regionals.

We learnt that young people can have a large lung capacity as well as adults. Our hypothesis was semi correct because adults got a large lung capacity as well as kids.

Term 2 Overview

This term has been another fun yet busy term. My most memorable and favourite part was the Jump Jam competition and the Gymnastics Festival.  

The terms topic was Retro Technology. This is the technology they used in the olden days. For this topic we visited the East Coast Museum of Technology where we found many fascinating pieces of tech that  had never seen before. As well as that we visited Electric Village and the Gisborne Museum. In the museum we wrote with feathers and ink and in Electric Village we learnt about new tech and how we use it. 

Also this term we have started a new play every Friday named "discovery." This is when you visit other classes to learn something new. 

We had a sharing in the hall about everything we did about retro tech as well as shared food for the parents who came. 

The Jump Jam team placed 1st in the Napier Jump Jam competition. We had so much fun traveling to Napier and staying at Kennedy Park.

We had a visit to the Life Ed Truck that came to our school. In this we learnt about friendship and what's most important in our lives. 

Every second week we go weeding a Hamanatua stream where we mulch and fix all pull out all the weeds. 

I loved this term so much and I can't wait till term 3!

Escape from Kraznir

From the end of term 1 to week four of term 2, in the writing workshop we have been working on a chapter book named escape from Kraznir. I am up to chapter 5 so far and I am really enjoying it. Here is a link to my writing:

Electric Village

This terms inquiry topic is retro tech. For this topic we went into town and went to electric village. Half of the class went to the tairawhiti museum and the other half went to the electric village.  I preferred the electric museum and that is what I will be informing you on today.

As soon as we got there we huddled around the electric bikes on show. We talked about electric vehicles and how much they have changed over the years. Did you know that electric vehicles are really old  but nobody used them in the olden days because they were really expensive. After that talk we talked about how electricity gets to your houses so fast and what is used to get it there. Next was free time. We could go on the electric scooter, play with robots controlled by ipads or play with wooden blocks on the road map.

I really enjoyed my visit to the electric village. I learnt lots and I will definitely going back with my family.

Ban The Boring

For a quick write this week was to list all the ways you can write said. The topic was word, words, words. In my book I listed 50 words. I really enjoyed doing this quick write because of all the different ideas you could write.   I will be using this wonderful words in my writing now to make my writing better than before.  

Probabilities With Socks

For the last couple of weeks at strand we have been working on Statistics. Also probability, and that's what I will be informing you on today.
We tested this by reaching into a paper bag and pulling out socks. In the bag was 2 purple socks and 2 blue socks. We pulled out 2 socks and saw if they were odd or a pair. We did this theory lots of times to see what our final answer was. We found out it was 50% chance to get a pair and 50% to get odd.
After doing this we added in another purple sock, then we tried to find the percentage. To find out this answer we did a graph. This was my graph:
We found out that 6/25 was the answer to getting an even pair of socks. Also 6/25 was the answer of getting an odd pair of socks. This means there is a 12/25 possibilities of getting a odd or even pair of socks. This is a screencastify of myself explaining this in more detail:
